COLOMBIA DUO ON TARGET FOR ATALANTA

Colombia strikers Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata were on target for Atalanta during the 5-0 thumping of Bologna at home. The Colombia duo started the game and were also on the scoresheet by the time they left the pitch towards the end of the game.

The two attackers played their part as Atalanta moved two places to second spot on the Italian Serie A standings.Atalanta started the weekend in fourth position before the significant win over Bologna catapulted the team to a position where they are the nearest challengers to league leaders Inter Milan.

Atalanta took the lead through Ukrainian international Ruslan Malinovskiy midway into the first half. Colombia player Muriel doubled the lead for the home team from the penalty spot just before the halftime break. The goal took his tally to 19 goals in the league this season.

Muriel is firmly in the race for the Golden Boot Award this term. He is only behind Romelu Lukaku (21) and Cristiano Ronaldo (25) in the race to win the Golden Boot in the Italian Serie A this season.

Swiss player Remo Freuler added a third goal for Atalanta on 57 minutes before Colombia national team player Zapata edged the hosts 4-0 ahead two minutes later. By that time, Dutch midfielder Jerdy Schouten had been sent off. He was dismissed on 49 minutes.

Second half substitute Aleksei Miranchuk wrapped up the big victory for Atalanta on 73 minutes. The Russian came on for Muriel after the hour mark before finding the back of the net. On his part, Zapata also didn’t finish the game as he was subbed off for fellow striker Sam Lammers with 12 minutes left on the clock.

Atalanta are in second place and are 11 points behind league leaders Inter Milan after the comprehensive win over 10-man Bologna. They are also five points ahead of Napoli in fifth place. Napoli have played one game less than Atalanta.
